Ready for 2015

Now it‘s official that Møller Bil Motorsport will continue in the German VLN Endurance Championship, and I celebrate that with a new website.

First of all, welcome to my new website. I’ve had this domain since the late 90’s and the website has had different designs over the years.

Ten years ago it was black (above), and one of the features was a “racing guide” for up and coming drivers like me, and try to help them maneuver in the cluttered landscape of international racing. The last seven years the website has been white (under), but now it was time for a change. And this time I’ve made the website myself (with some help from a WordPress-template)

At this website you can read about my background, what services I offer, my collection of race tracks and news from my life as a racing driver, TV-commentator and PR-advisor. I’m not updating this website very often, though, so the best way to follow what happens is in social media:

I’ve also decided to have just English as the language on the new website. Most of the readers are probably Norwegian, but I know I have some followers from other countries also, and Norwegians understand English anyway. And it’s less work for me to write in just one language…

The most important news, though, is that Møller Bil Motorsport is ready for the 2015 season, and Håkon Schjærin, Kenneth Østvold and I will continue as the drivers. We will do six races in the VLN-championship that holds all its races at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and after a fantastic 2014 our aim is to do even better next year. For my own part I had a couple of pole positions this year, but I didn’t get the opportunity to show my full potential in the last races, so I’m really looking forward to next season.

2015 will be my eleventh season in the VLN and my tenth season as a semi-professional racing driver. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to race on this level, and it’s very satisfying that everything is settled for next year already.

You can read more about which races we are going to contest here: http://www.mollerbil-motorsport.no

2014 was a great year for me. I worked really hard over the winter both mentally and physically to be better in every area, and I’m very satisfied with the result. I was faster than ever, we won races, I qualified on pole two times on four attempts, I had some important overtakes in all our races and I beat Kimi Räikkönen ; )

Some days ago I was even picked out as one of the top athletes in the Hamar-area by the local newspaper Hamar Arbeiderblad. Every day from December 1 to December 24, they’re picking out an athlete in their Christmas Calendar, and to my big surprise I was the one they presented December 5th. There are some other local drivers that I feel also deserves a place on the list, but it was nevertheless an honor to be on the same list as professional football and ice hockey players.

2014 was also a year where I, even more than before, started to appreciate the situation I’m in. I got two flattering offers this year to drive the 24 hour race at the Nürburgring, and one of them was with former World Touring Car Champion Rob Huff. But because of different reasons I couldn’t do the race. Nevertheless, this got me thinking of how lucky I am to be a part of Møller Bil Motorsport.

We are like a big family, everything is taken care of and we really work together as a team to get the best results possible. All this makes Møller Bil Motorsport being the team I most want to race for. Of course it could be fun to try a faster car, or to race at a different track sometime in the future, but I’m not willing to sacrifice everything for that to happen anymore.

When I was 23 years old I used all my money to go racing in the USA. I took a big chance, but it was worth it at the time, and I have never regretted. Although it’s hard to admit sometimes, I’m getting older and I have some other values in my life today.

Yes, racing is a big part of my life and I use a lot of time to be faster every year I drive. I’m very dedicated around the races I do each year, but then I go home and there my family is the most important thing. What I’m trying to say is that I have discovered that I’m not willing to sacrifice as much as earlier to go racing.

I’m already sacrificing a lot to race for Møller Bil Motorsport in VLN, but it’s worth it. Next year I plan to be even more dedicated and work even harder to continue this year’s success. And if I one day would get the right offer do drive another interesting race somewhere, that would of course have been interesting, and I would have been very dedicated to do that also – but it has to be the right offer. When I was younger I was constantly searching for opportunities, but I have to admit that I’m not doing that anymore. And the reason is that I’m so happy to be where I am today.

That’s a good feeling, and I have to thank everyone that makes my racing career possible. We have a great bunch of people in Møller Bil Motorsport and I’m humbled and thankful for being able to represent this team.

It’s soon Christmas, and I’m taking a small holiday away from Møller Bil Motorsport, Ribalta and Viasat. But first I wish a Merry Christmas to all my colleagues, customers and friends!

Atle
