My racing season officially kicked off with the annual pre-season test at the Nürburgring Nordschleife Friday and Saturday.
It’s been a long winter, but I have spent my time well with a lot of alpine skiing with the family, some cross country skiing, physical and mental training and even some driving on ice both in Finland and Norway. And it has been a lot of things to do at work lately, but I manage to focus on racing when I need to do that.

We were a bit nervous about the weather this weekend, with snow and cold temperatures on the forecast. But we couldn’t do anything other than to fly down to Germany on Thursday and hope for the best. Thursday evening we had dinner at Pistenklause, and I met my old Skip Barber-competitor John Edwards. John is now a factory driver for BMW in the United Sportscar Championship, and it’s always a pleasure to get some inside information from the world of professional racing. Although I must admit that what we do in the VLN series at the moment is not very far from professional racing, and I could easily have spent all my time preparing for the races, but unfortunately I also need a job to pay my bills…
It was cold Friday morning, but no snow, and we were ready for our first test day of the year. My team mates Håkon, Kenneth and I all got many laps, and we tried some different settings on the car. It was also useful to get some laps around the “Green Hell” after a long winter.

The conditions were the same on Saturday, and we did even more driving. We tested all the settings we had planned, all drivers got a lot of laps and the car worked perfect all weekend! So thank you to our technical partner Raeder Motorsport and all our great mechanics.
Therefore we are optimistic before our first race in the end of April. We don’t know all our competitors yet, but I think we should do just fine.
After the test I flew home to Norway Saturday night, and just a few hours after I landed, I was announcing the Australian Formula One Grand Prix on Viasat Motor. A hectic, but fun weekend. And now it’s full focus towards our first race. Watch this space!
